SAMAA TV to provide financial support to ‘The Latif Kapadia Memorial Trust (LKMWT) for its health, education and social welfare projects.
KARACHI (December 20, 2008): SAMAA TV, one of the leading Urdu news channels in Pakistan today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Latif Kapadia Memorial Trust (LKMWT) for its Social Entrepreneurship Programme (SEP). Under this partnership, SAMAA TV will fund various social welfare activities of LKMWT including a scholarship program and documentary contest for amateur filmmakers.
The signing ceremony took place at LKMWT’s office. Mr. Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer, SAMAA TV and Mr. Ahmed Kapadia, Chairman, Board of Trustees, LKMWT, signed the Memorandum, in the presence of other members of the Trust and SAMAA TV officials.
Mr. Ahmed Kapadia expressed his gratitude towards SAMAA TV for taking the responsibility as a social conscious entity committed towards a positive social development. Mr. Kapadia said that “I view this as an agreement of a much wider spectrum of importance and outcome than you might think, simply by talking about the corporate social responsibilities. This collaboration clearly expresses the value of investing in partnerships between organizations to effectively respond to social issues affecting our society today. Such partnerships cultivate results and foster hope among our people.”

Amir Jahangir, speaking at the signing ceremony said: “LKMWT has shown remarkable achievements in health and social development since its inception in 2003, and we are pleased to offer our financial assistance for various health, education and welfare projects under the Trust. Our joint venture will show the effectiveness to address educational challenges faced by meritorious needy students and also revive the entrepreneurial spirit among our youth. We anticipate this partnership will expand the benefits of our collaboration to many students.”
Under the agreement, SAMAA TV will financially support the Scholarship Program for students doing Master’s level graduate studies in the field of Social Sciences from any public sector universities / institutions of Pakistan. The Scholarship Program will be in name of The Latif Kapadia Memorial Trust and will be targeting the students who strive towards a better education but lack the financial resources.
Upon completion of education and a minimum scoring of GPA 3.0, the successful candidates will be offered a one year job contract with SAMAA TV with a salary at par with industry standards and within required department.
SAMAA TV will also announce a documentary contest for amateur filmmakers in honor of the Late Latif Kapadia, which will focus on social issues in Pakistan. The contest participants will be from any Public Sector University and the winning candidates will be awarded a prize grant.
The participants will submit a video documentary which will be reviewed by SAMAA TV’s and LKMT’s representatives (consisting of leading news directors and Graphics team leaders) and winners will be announced and awarded the monetary award accordingly. The winning participants of the documentary contest will also be offered a one year job with SAMAA TV within desired department.
SAMAA TV will be airing the winning documentaries on their channel with special community service messages to highlight the social issues in Pakistan and the role of the individual citizen. Community Service messages is part of SAMAA TV’s mandate to create social awareness among the individual citizen and encourage all to play a positive role for the betterment of the future.
