The latest addition to the Medi Health Clinic that operates under the Latif Kapadia Memorial Welfare Trust (LKMWT) is an eye testing machine that tests 10 different vision functions. The machine is not only simple to use but has 80 years of vision testing research behind it and is thus a blend of convenience, simplicity and expertise.
The procedure takes approximately 5 minutes and will determine if the person concerned has one of the 10 vision functions that it tests for namely blocked vision, far sightedness, near sightedness, color blindness, vision fatigue, depth perception, tunnel vision, low light/ night vision, eye balance, fusion or the ability to merge two images into one clear, coherent image. The machine however does not give the number required for eye glasses but determines a problem that can then be followed up by a specialist.
Mr. Hamza Sami has very kindly donated this costly and extremely useful machine to the clinic. His grandfather had wanted to help people in this area and is a legacy that he wishes to continue. Currently there are very few of these kind of machines freely available to people. Many a time people carry on with their daily activities and chores with eye problems that go undetected and may hamper their work. The vision testing facility will now be available to the underprivileged that visit the clinic on a daily basis and can now be diagnosed for eye problems. The machine is mobile and can be used in conducting eye camps at different locations. It will greatly contribute to improving the quality of life for adults who may not be able to have problems in vision diagnosed due to lack of information, education and funds.
Latif Kapadia Memorial Welfare Trust (LKMWT) is a non-business organization. It was established in 2007 purely for the welfare of deprived and underprivileged families to provide them with quality and inexpensive health and educational facilities within the community. Medi Health Clinic is its first exclusive health project in Shah Faisal Colony, Karachi. It provides OPD services under the supervision of a qualified doctor and paramedics to an average of 100 patients a day.
